Swift - The Speediest Train from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod
Russia's high-speed rail transport system took a turn for the better since 2009, but as they say there’s always room for improvment! The Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod high-speed rail line began using new high-speed trains called Swift or "Strizh" in Russian, produced by the Spanish company Talgo. Russian Railways relocated and concentrated the Siemens Sapsan trains that operated this route before to the Moscow-Saint-Petersburg line, and as Mikhail Akulov, Vice-President of Russian Railways and Managing Director of the Federal Passenger Company said: "As a result, we get two powerful high-speed transportation systems in Russia: from Moscow to the North-West and from Moscow to the Volga region." The launch of the Swift high-speed train boosted the quality of transport services for passengers on the Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod route. The Talgo's passive tilting system saves travel time by allowing the train to take tight curves at higher speed, thus the journey time of the train from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod is reduced by 20 minutes (faster than the best Sapsan timings!). The Swift operates seven times a day using a fleet of four trains. The two non-stop trains make the distance between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod in 3 and a half hours, the remaining ones that make stops in Vladimir, Kovrov y Dzherzhinsk range from 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours. The Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod Swift train can move at a speed of 200km/h and seat up to 409 passengers. These Talgo 1520 mm-gauge trains have unique features: each of them comprises 18 passenger coaches and two technical cars, the deluxe sleeping cars on the train are also provided with en-suite facilities, all coaches are air-conditioned, have electric heating and are equipped with ecologically-friendly toilets. Moreover, passengers also have access to the Internet and Wi-Fi-Cinema for an additional fee during their travel. So if you’re planning to visit Nizhny Novgorod - Swift is entirely at your service!
