At present, other than the former Soviet countries mentioned in the e-ticket section, you will need a paper ticket for all international routes bound for Russia. You will need paper tickets also for domestic or international travel that begins or ends in China, Mongolia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and most other destinations in Europe.  Paper tickets are tickets physically purchased at the train station, which can be treated as boarding passes that allow you to proceed to your train car for boarding just as you would with an e-ticket with automatic check-in. The advantage of using our service to purchase paper tickets is that we purchase the ticket in advance for you so that you don’t have to wait in line for a space that might not be available for the day you want to travel. (Seasoned former Soviet railway travelers will certainly appreciate this advantage...) As with electronic tickets, we can only purchase tickets 40 days in advance of your travel date. The only exception would be for travel between Russia and Mongolia, China, and European countries outside of the former Soviet Union - for such itineraries, we can procure tickets up to 60 days in advance.

If you book paper tickets, you can order us to mail them to any address in the world, to your hotel in Russia, or you can pick them up at our office in St. Petersburg yourself, if such an option is more convenient.
