Sapsan Train Review

"I've been taking Sapsan train every time there is a need to travel between Moscow and St. Petersburg since it came in service couple years ago.

Of course, there are still people who prefer to fly, but it seems that this fast (about 4 hours) and comfortable train is a much better alternative. It brings you from downtown in one city to downtown in another so there is no need to go through famous Moscow traffic jams to get to the airport.

Seats are very comfortable and service extremely pleasant by Russian standards. There are two classes of services; the only difference is that you are getting hot meal and a drink (only one included - you pay for the next) plus some newspapers and not so comfortable sleepers. Excellent travel conditions regardless of a car class.

If you are not travelling alone, economy probably much better choice. Seats are the same and one can enjoy going to the bistro car for food without being afraid of leaving personal belongings when your companions are watching. For solo travel business probably a better choice. Price difference is only about 80 USD between two classes. One small issue are the toilets - for whatever reason they still not as clean as you would expect and the reason seems to be in the design."
