New Russian high speed train 'Swift'

On May 6, 2015 Russian Railways have opened ticket sales for a brand-new bullet train from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod. This Talgo based high-speed train called Swift will replace popular Sapsan trains on the route starting from June 1, 2015. Let's take a look at what's there onboard the new bird on Russian railways.

Based on the popular European Talgo train configuration, the Swift train was re-designed to meet Russian climate conditions and railway gauge. The train will run 5 times per day starting from June and 7 times per day starting from July. Overall travel time will be 3 hours 35 minutes.

Popular Sapsan trains will no longer run on the Moscow-to-Nizhny Novgorod route, but Swift trains promise to rival the predecessor in terms of quality and service. The typical train configuration will have 2nd & 1st class seating carriages, deluxe sleeper carriages (with separate 2-berth cabins) and a restaurant car. Each car will have air-conditioning and individual heating control, while deluxe carriages will even offer private WC & shower.
