In what would be the first of many events to shake the unsteady rule of Nicholas II and his family, Felix Yusupov lured the Romanov’s advisor, Rasputin, to this very palace. Its halls witnessed the murder of Rasputin, and less than a year later would see revolution. Today the palace is a museum of this famous murder as well as a display of its simple yet elegant architecture.
