CSKA Ice Palace

Sights / Sport
Built in 1964, it was heavily renovated in 1991 and currently has 5,600 seats. It hosts ice hockey games of CSKA Moscow. The arena is located next to Khodynka Field. CSKA, whose name translates as "Central Sports Club of the Army", won 32 of the 46 Soviet Championships, their first coming in 1948. Between 1977 and 1989, they won 13 in a row. CSKA also finished second 10 times in the Soviet era. They were dominant against NHL teams, as well, winning 26 out of 36 games against North American opposition in the 1970s and 1980s. And the list of guys who played for and/or coached them is awe-inspiring: Bobrov, Firsov, Tretiak, Tarasov, Kharlamov*, Larionov, Fetisov, Tikhnov, and Bure to name but a very very few.
